It is very unlikely that normal work practices with this product could result in measurable epichlorohydrin concentrations in the workplace atmosphere. Nevertheless, you should be aware that epichlorohydrin has been reported to produce cancer in laboratory animals and to produce mutagenic changes in bacteria and cultured human cells. It has been classified by the IARC as a probable human carcinogen (IARC Group 2A) based on the following conclusions: Human evidence- Inadequate; Animal Evidence- Sufficient. It has been classified as an anticipated human carcinogen by the National Toxicology Program. NOTE TO PHYSICIANS: No specific antidotes. Supportive care. UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: N/A HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: The by-products expected in incomplete pyrolsis or combustion of epoxy resins are mainly phenolics, carbon monoxide, and water. HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur by itself but masses more than one pound of product plus aliphatic amine will cause irreversible polymerization with considerable heat buildup. SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES STEPS TO BE TAKEN IF MATERIAL IS SPILLED OR RELEASED: Soak up in non-reactive absorbent material or scrape up. The residue can be removed with hot soapy water. Use of methylene chloride, acetone, or aromatic solvents in clean up poses a distinct hazard and therefore should be avoided.
